I just heard from a reliable source (I've waited a long time to be
able to say that! ;-) that Beman Archery has been bought by Easton
Aluminum.

It could be really interesting since Beman and Easton have had
competitive products over the years. Easton also made kite spars for a
while, but discontinued the kite products...

Beman also makes archery shafts much as Easton does. I am wondering if
anyone has looked into the Beman archery shafts as when I looked at them,
physically they looked much more consistant than the Beman kite spars and do
come in many of the same sizes. I did not have my scale with me so have no
idea on their weights however.

The archery shafts do make excellant kite spars. Some kite makers use
Beman hunting arrow shafts for their kites. For many, the premium kite
shaft is the Beman Diva shaft. You can choose the stiffness that you
want since they come in many sizes.

Originally, all Beman kite shafts were second arrow shafts. These were
slightly out of round, or slightly crooked, or weighed more or less,
or had different stiffness, etc.

Sometimes AFC would ship arrow shafts when they didn't have enough
kite shafts of a certain size.

The main problem with using arrows is that they are more expensive
than kite spars. Archers demand higher consistancy than kite folks do,
and pay for this consistancy with higher prices. Divas cost twice what
Pro-Comps do.

I make it a rule to drop by my local archery shop about once a month. They
will sell me damaged AFC and/or Beman shafts (missing feathers, broken
arrow nocks etc..) for real cheap. After you clean them up and remove any
glue used on the feathers, they are good as new.

You can never have to many kite spars :)

Does anyone know if Beman is still in business? I've been trying to
reach them for a week, but their fax does not answer and I get on a
message when I call.

It's sort of like an old joke....take my money...please!

Last I heard was that Beman had been acquired by Easton Aluminum.. Try
calling at (801) 539-1400.. The KTA directory lists the contact person as
Danny Richardson..
