The SLR with all the stuff like aluminium-frame and receiver (a modified walky-talky) has got a weight of about 3 kg, which seems to be no serious problem for a 3-squaremeter-kite. When fixing the camera about 10 to 15 meter underneath the parafoil, the kite doesn't manage to lift it. The rope is vertical from kite to camera orizontal (nearly) between the camera and me. At the moment I hope to solve this problem by lifting the parafoil to ~100 m high and then pull the camera up like a ferry. Is there anybody out there who had similar problems or a solution for the described situation (maybe my bridle should be changed?). Does anybody know an easy method to stabilize a parafoil (a 2m turbine did not cause much effect on stability) ? please contact me at robert.pudlo@dbag.ulm.DaimlerBenz.COM = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 20 Jul 1994 16:24:40 -1000 From: jdc3538@ultb.isc.rit.edu (J.D. Sounds like your rig weighs a little too much for the kite to lift. My 16-oz. (2.2 kg) rig flies well on a 3 or 4 kite train; one 16 square foot flowform, a 16 square-foot "Painless" parafoil, a 10 foot wingspan delta, and possibly a 8 foot wingspan delta. One of the next projects will be a 60 square-foot flowform parafoil, to cut down on the number of kites needed. >Does anybody know an easy method to stabilize a parafoil (a 2m turbine did not cause much effect on stability) ? > >please contact me at robert.pudlo@dbag.ulm.DaimlerBenz.COM If your parafoil dives to one side the bridle may be misadjusted. Parafoils are a bit of a pain in that respect. Flowform parafoils are much easier, having only 3 bridle lines. (To tell the truth, Robert is just sitting 10m away from my office, he is a new colleague of mine). :-)))) And also a person, that composes email in a much too wide xterm-window :-( I know Robert already since about 6 years, but now that he is working in the same office as me, I am sure to bring him from just playing with kites (how did Ron Reich say in his book: stage 1 - kite controlls kiter) to being a real kite expert (whose sewing machine never gets cold....).
