My car fits me and my kites, but since the other members of my family object to riding on the hood of the car, I can't have them with me all the time (my kites that is). :-( Living in ski country (Colorado), an idea drove by me the other day. Out here they sell enclosed carriers for skis that fit on the roof of your car. It seems a waste of a good carrier to use it for skis when you could use it for kites... These are made of fiberglass, aerodynamically shaped, have locks, and have enough room for many kites and assorted gear. They cost around $450 (US) new so I am going to keep my eyes open for a used one. That way, I get to have my kites and my family gets to ride inside in the winter! Has anyone used these carriers or have other suggestions (outside of buying a new car)??? For a cheaper version, just get some four or six inch PVC pipe, with a solid cap for one end and a screw-on cap for the other. It's somewhat heavy, but it's as airline-baggage-handler proof as anything I've seen. Try to get thin-wall pipe, if they sell it in your area. Strap it onto any old car-top rack and you're off. I cut some holes in the side of mine and put a shoulder strap on it. You can also drill holes sideways through the screw fitting and cap, and put a long padlock through it to foil the curious. Actually, Karen and I did get some funny looks from car salesmen when we measured their cars to see if 2 metre long things would fit inside... Our VW Golf does this quite nicely. Kites (and skis) run front to back between the seats, and two people still fit in the back seat. - irving - = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
