Subject: Re: Disney & copyright

Up in our neck of the woods, Art Ross' '93 flowform (w800 sq
ft) 'Wind Dreams' has pictures of Mickey and Minnie on it
(15' high no less!). Talking to Art, he asked Disney for
permission and got an OK as long as it was not sold
commercially. I've seen it flying here, Westport, Long
Beach and Seaside AKA without hearing anything about it.

In fact, Art got more flak from his '89 kite (the yellow
'Hawaii' one) because the city parks board thought it should
    be advertising Vancouver instead!

As Michael relates, the copyright issue is probably less of
an issue in Canada (I guess too small a market). I could
probably see the problem at corporately-sponsored festivals
where it could be perceived as free advertising and
    publicity.

I hope it doesn't proceed in this direction; creativity gets
stifled, and in the end, only the lawyers win (apologies to
    kiteflying lawyers...)
