I have heard that around this time of year (possibly early Novemeber ?)
there is a tradition in guatemala where many people gather in a certain
graveyard and fly some very large kites over the graves to dispell spirits.

Does anyone else have any knowledge about this ?

Regards

Andy

Andy,

The Spring '93 Kite Lines' cover article is about the Guatemalan kite
festival. What do you want to know?

Wow! I had an answer,

There was a very good article on this tradition in KiteLines, Spring '93
(vol 10, number 1). The event is associated with November 1, aka All
Saints Day, aka the Day of the Dead. The article is a bit long to
reproduce, but discusses the origins of the tradition and the construction
of the kites flown. Pretty groovy...

The spring '93 issue of Kite Lines contains an article by Michael Tourigny
entitled 'The Soul-Lifting Kites of Guatemala'. Kites are flown on
Nov.1, El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This article highlights
activities in the town of Santiago Sacatepequez.
