Subject: internal ferrule adhesive?

Hi - I know that this is probably an easy question, but I didn't find the
answer in the FAQ...

I've got some fiberglass spars that I want to join with an internal ferrule
made of fiberglass.

Are superglue, epoxy, and hot-melt glue my three options? Which works best?

Thanks!

(I can hardly wait until Miller Lite finds a way to combine kites and
juggling!)

Regular epoxy will probably make the best bond. Superglue can be very
brittle, impact can often crack the glue. There are superglues made to
be flexible. I use Flex-Zap, made by the same folks that make
Zap-a-Gap.

Hot melt glue is quick, but it usually doesn't hold that well...

The best option is always to use the epoxy with the longest curing
time you can stand, 5 minutes in my case. I once used a 24 hour
epoxy, just to see if it made a significantly stronger bond. It
might have, but not enough to merit the anguish of the wait.

Superglue (cyanoacrylate) works, but has little shear strength.
Most commercially manufactured kites use cyc based adhesives. Cyc
adhesives work best when the ferrule fits tighly, as the glue
itself cannot fill much of a gap.
