Has anyone ever noticed that very often kite shops also sell juggling
equipment, and vice-versa? Why?! What sort of link is there between these
two activities?
It also seems to crop up with cycling / fishing equipment for some reason.

Air? Challenge? I've noticed this mostly in Europe (like Flic Flac
shops)and not too much in the states, although I believe more and more
shops here are starting to think about adding juggling to thier line, and
I hope they do! When the wind stops, not every one wants to run around
with an "ultra lite" , so it is easier to stand there and juggle. Well,
for me it is not easier, but I am learning. I can juggle 3 balls for 6
seconds, adding a second more almost week.(slow learner)

Kites of Boston has had juggling stuff for a while now. I've seen
other kite shops with juggling equipment. More often you will see
boomerangs and flying disks/rings at kite shops.

My theory is that people who like kites, like other toys as well.

At the recent Newport Stunt Kite Championships I brought my diabolo
and Jason Benedict had several devil sticks. Yo-yos have also been
popular at Eastern League events.

Changing hats for a moment- the obvious reason is financial, to make
money. Kites sales will have a seasonality to them, whereas the juggling
can be an indoor activity. Both involve good hand-eye coordination and
reflexes, could be considered "adult toys", and also may attract people
who enjoy receiving attention... (naturally, some people will take
exception to this).
I'd also guess that the juggling equipment is small, fairly
inexpensive to stock, and could be a good inpulse item. I'd be more
surprised to find major power tools in a kite shop.
