I think pink/Black gives the best contrast. I've got a Pink/Blue
NSE and a Pink/Black wizard, and the Wizard definitely wins the
contrast contest.

Just one question: Pink(r.k)/black or black(r.k)/pink? For simplicity,
black(r.k)/pink would make life REAL easy for us sewing-stupid people.
It's pretty easy to use ripstop tape to make the letter in black
and tape them on a pink background.

My 2 cents...

For those who are curious, the final vote totals for colors are:

  Votes are now:
	 hot pink/black 7
	 neon red/black 1
	 hot pink/dark blue	2
	 hot pink/neon blue	1

Hot Pink/Black it is.

As for the logo, itself, looking back on past articles, there were several
people who stated a specific preference. Since two people have asked why we
haven't had a vote on logo, I reread the articles on the subject, and found
the following numbers of actual preferences stated:

	r.k/R.K 7
	@RK			1
	@ 2

Since this is the same types of numbers by which the colors were chosen, I
think this is probably a reasonable vote. If some watchers out there feel
differently about this issue, speak now or forever hold you piece.

Dave (et. al.),

I've gotten a preliminary design for a pin that I'm going to be sending
to Steve Cseplo in TIFF form so he can laser-set it for printing. Basically
it looks like three diamond stunters sans tails (tails were too tedious
to look good). The colors are black/hot pink/dk gray/lt pink/lt gray
with the letters R K in vibrant green across the front. Even though I was
only thinking of a pin when I did it, after looking at it, I think it would
look good on a feather too (something with black and red in it). As soon
as I get a good answer on how to post a picture, I'll put it up on the
net.

I too vote will vote for Hot Pink & Black. (I would prefer Dark Blue
myself, but I want to get something decided :-).

:
: 1) are we going to use r.k or R.K

I vote for R.K

: 2) are we going to put them in the outline of a kite (ie Delta)

I hope so (a delta is my preference.

: 3) are we going to have a standard font

Something simple like Helvetica would be nice. One person suggested
Courier, but Helvetica is cleaner (read: "simpler to cut out"). For
those who don't know what these type faces look like, Courier looks
like the characters on an old typewriter, Helvetica is more like the
block letters they use in kindergarten.

OK, but... which "hot pink". In X11 world the color names database
defines five "hotpinks":

	R G B

	255 105 180	#FF69B4 hotpink
	255 110 180	#FF6EB4 hotpink1
	238 106 167	#EE6AA7 hotpink2
	205 96 144	#CD6090 hotpink3
	139 58 98	#8B3A62 hotpink4

I rendered these colors with Xcoloredit and to me it seems that
three first are about what we like to have on logo. 3 & 4 are too
"brownish".

I don't have rip stop samples in the office, so I couldn't compare
how well they match with X's "hotpinks". Black is Black - at least
pretty close when it's new.

Folks need to remember that hot colors fade fast. Some samples of hot
pink will show fading after one day in the sun. I would suggest
staying with the primary colors for this reason.

Sorry, I was on vacation and missed the actual voting but let add a
few comments:

being a unix person, I vote for r.k in lowercase. usenet newsgroups
are always in lowercase so the log should be too.

courier is monospaced, the closest thing to a video terminal and
exists as a default on postscript printers. still, Helvetica might
look better and wouldn't stray from the concept.

someone mentioned pins. is there any other "merchandise" planned,
like stickers, patches, or t-shirts? I am curious as during my
vacation I stopped by the @! party wearing my X Industries t-shirt and
noticed that at one point I was in a conversation with someone in a
DOD shirt and another with a Suicide Squid shirt. (all "net"
merchandise from talk.bizarre, rec.motorcycles and rec.arts.comics).
