(1-800-827-6364) Subject: LOW WIND SPEED MEASUREMENT Take note of the November, 1995 issue of Scientific American magazine. The column called "The Amateur Scientist" describes "Measuring the wind with hot metal" and gives complete instructions on building an anemometer capable of "detect(ing) wind speeds as low as 0.1 meter per second." Accuracy is "within a few percent". Small enough to operate "in a space as small as a peanut butter jar." It also indicates regarding the spherical cup anemometers "many are good only for wind speeds above about 5 meters per second(11 miles per hour)." Looks like a good way for the TINKERERS among us to bring some advanced technology to the low wind measurement arena. INDOOR KITERS STOP DROOLING AND START BUILDING! (sorry Dave B., Dean J., Dave A., John R., etc. but you just gotta try this out!!!!) Maybe a group purchase of equipment can be arranged at a discount??? Also check out the additional info at http://www.thesphere.com/SAS/ or AOL's Scientific American area. OK, the microkite guy is drooling too... imagine measuring the wind speed at the end of my flying stick!
