The Octopus is made by Peter Lynn of New Zealand. My apologies for the imprecise question (maybe I should stick to knots :-). I was referring not to animal kites but to big animals, made of ripstop, which are tethered to the ground. Some of them have appendages which spread out for some distance and children climb all over. I saw such at the Berlin Kite Festival (Hoppgarten) a couple of years ago. thanks again, Anne rock@netcom.com = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1993 08:22:45 -1000 From: andrew@tug.com (Andrew Beattie) Message-Id: Organization: Negligible. This does sound rather like Peter Lynn. He tends to treat his kites as children's toys. At Wasington (UK), there was far to much wind, so he flew a 27m Octopus by having a whole bunch of people hold onto the bridle-loop, so the head of the octopus would be say 25' off the ground, with the legs stretching out behind amongst the crowd. His Fugu is basically a *huge* inflated ball. It doesn't fly, but simply bounces round the field. Children play underneath, so that when the fish hits the ground, if flattens over them, to recover and bounce off again. You can see both Peter Lynn and Martin Leicster at Schevening this weekend.
