I tried to Email this message to Rec.Kites a few days ago it bounced back a
few times, I hope this time it gets out.

Hi all,

We returned home about 2:00 A.M. from the Mid American Sport Kite Classic a
little starry eyed, but we had a delightful time at this event, thanks to all
the flier's hospitality. I would like to let all the Rec. kite readers know
that Alan Sparling made up a great T-shirt with the Rec. Kite pin graphics
on it. Very nice job indeed, black t's with five different colours on them,
wow! I know everyone will want to have one, I happen to notice he had a few
extra, if you are fast or lucky you may be able to purchase one from him.
Allan, I think you could make a nice little profit from them. (But if I know
Allan he would prefer to give them away ;-) Sorry Allan, I just had to say
something to the Rec. Kite fliers about your efforts.

Talk about giving, he was a real sport when he won some money through a ticket
draw, he gave it all back to support the event. Just like David Gomberg did
at one of the events last year. He also won many other goodies like kites
etc. talk about good luck, I should get him to buy me a lottery ticket.

If you haven't had the chance to get out to this event make sure you put it on
next years calendar. John Cosby and Elaine not only know how to organize good
competition, but also a fun event. It gave us the opportunity to meet many
new fliers and old friends. Some of whom attended this year's event were
Vince B. (Stinger Kites), Chicago Fire's Bob Neiman, and Wilma, Robin & Rick
Garner, (Team Rob-N-Air Master Pairs, winners of this years A.K.A. Mid West
conference), Sam & Ann Ritter also conference winners, Al Hargus, and the
Circus, Jon Trennepohl, also the winner of master ballet & precision in this
conference. Jeff and I apologize for not remembering all your names thanks
for just dropping bye and saying hi, it sure made us feel at home. A special
hello to all the fliers at Mid American S.K.C and to Rec. Kiter Alan
Sparling, George Wright, it was a pleasure meeting you and sharing our love
for kiting. Finally we want express our thanks to all t6he people who worked
so hard behind the scene. There never seems to be enough time at events but
what did notice there were a lot of new fliers in all the classes, wife and
husbands teams and father's and sons :) :) they were all having a good time,
this is a very healthy sign, for the future of kiting.

Re. A.K.A. Convention.

       Howdy, John Tavo,......................... Hi Marty,

The name cards we made up last year for Seaside had excellent results. Anyone
can do it!

As an example:
                    What we thought was important.

The name cards (held in a simple plastic holder) we made consisted of the
following information:

... A kite, (we selected the Revolution).

Included on the Revolution were two large @ symbols on both left and right-
hand sides of the Rev. Next, our first name on the left and last name on
right. In the center of the Rev. in large letters REC.KITES. At the top of
the kite we placed our internet address. At the bottom we put our phone # and
address.

While we were in transit we added some color, using magic markers, to
brighten them up a little. You can let your imagination go wild especially if
you have a color printer. Or you can just make simple one like we did. Each
individual could select whatever info. she or he wanted to put on their name
card. B.T.W. they don't cost much, and I can only imagine what great pieces
of art work some fliers could create. Wow! This is something all fliers
around the world could make and share in, it's universal and can be fun to
make.

Well if something doesn't come up before the convention I will print up a few
extra blank copies so that we can give some to other Rec. Kiters. They can
fill their own names and addresses in the appropriate location. You will only
have to supply your own plastic card holder and if want to add color bring
along some markers. Hopefully the pin's will be available at the convention
it will solve the problem.
                                                       See you all!

                                                     Jeff & Jim Poy

B.T.W.

Toronto's Annual Kite Fly was a great success blessed with good winds, and
beautiful sunshine. This is a fun event, where all the fliers have a chance
to chat, lay back and relax. Lots of fun :) all kinds of single kites dotted
the blue sky. The winds were relatively smooth about 25 KM. Mark Groshens
brought out his buggy and six flexi foils (ten footers) we all took turns
sand skiing on the beach and some of us even got a little airborne :) :)
I am sure someone else will present more details on this event as well, we
had to leave early and did not attend the night fly.

Oh yes, on behalf of us Canucks I would like to pass on our CONGRADULATIONS
TO THE MEMBERS OF "TEAM TSUNAMI 6" for their success at the World Cup! Way to
go guys.
