[BEGIN DIATRIBE]
Hi; I've only been following for a week or so... A couple of weeks ago
while sitting in my back-yard baking in the sun and wind I had this
sudden urge to build a kite. I have no idea where it came from; it
was just suddenly there...

Anyways; I went to the library to find books on kite making but they
were all fairly old... So; I went to a fledgling kite store and looked
at some of their stunt kites and promptly decided that was what I wanted
to build...

So; I went out and got some stuff from a local hobby store and using
some old spinnaker material that I had; I built something that; if you
tilt your head just right; sort of remotely resembles one of the kites
in the store...

Then I hooked up a bridle by guessing what it should look like and
tried to fly it.. After about 1/2 an hour I finally managed to get
the thing to stay in the air for about 10 seconds of very uncontrolled
flight after which time it flew towards the ground at what appeared to
be Mach 2.. All that remained were some broken sticks and shreds of
sail-cloth...
[END DIATRIBE]

My question; I've seen mention of some FTP sites but haven't run
across any addresses and the FAQ hasn't come through... Do any of
the FTP sites have plans or patterns for 'fun' stunt kites? I'd
like to avoid walking into the kite store with a measuring tape and
a pad of paper... It's not that I can't afford to buy the kite; but
for me; building is half the fun...

I've found that ftp.hawaii.edu in pub/rec/kites has a lot of useful kite stuff
in it. In fact, I found avery useful program (written in BASIC) to aid in
kites building there. I can E-mail a copy of in modified to run under Q-Basic
if you like.

Good Luck!
