Has anyone else flown a Jester? I got one a week a go, and love it, love
it! Fast and great for groundwork, but I keep breaking my left inner
standoff. I also fly a Stranger, Scorpion, Impulse and 2x10 flexis, and
have never broken more than the odd standoff. Anyone else have this
problem?

A basset hound is an excellent kite dog. They just sit and watch.

Hi all

Does anyone know anything about this comapny and more importantly Joel K
Scholz design kites?
I have just bought one of the Beautiful Evil Kites, and was wondering if
these are a limited run design, and if so the sort of size of run they
make of each design

Also if anyone else has flown a Beautiful Evil (dragon) kite and hints or
things to look out for would be great

Cheers
Andy

Is there a recommended line length for stacking REV II's, and what is the

Rec.Kite's got a one paragraph overview in the August issue of

The context was you can fine almost anything on the net unlike

does anyone know how many 6ft stackers produce about the same pull a 1 10

has anyone used their power kite to pull an inflatable dingy, and what
happened.
what happens if your stacker goes in the sea, is it salvagable? does the

i've got a little web page on kites at

has anyone got any good KITE links they think i should put on there?

I am planning to construct an arch of diamond kites, 36 in. high, 30 in.
wide. I have received good advice on construction from colleagues on
rec.kites, but need a few more items to feel confident in construction.

Vertical spar attachments. Is there a loop at the horizontal cord for
the spar, or is it only attached at the top and bottom spar pockets?

Segment ratios: Ratios of top to bottom segments on diamonds seem to
have quite a wide range. For an arch, what proportion of the kite should
extend above the horizontal cord?

Density. Tentatively, I plan for 30 in. between kites, thus, 5 ft. per
kite. For a 500 ft. arch, is this a good distribution, or should I space
them further apart? Any idea about the actual pull at the ends of such
an arch?

Thanks for your response. You may email to:
jmnelson@tigger.stcloud.msus.edu

Hi,

I want to buy a reasonable quality kite (preferably complete with all the lines, handles etc. etc.)
that I can take on holiday with me. So it's gotta pack down good and small. And really that means no
spars. Which sorta points to foils rather than rogallos (are they true rogallos or just delta
shaped? I seem to remember NASA looking at rogallo systems rahter than parachutes for spacecraft
recovery... anyway, back to the subject...)

It seems that most flexifoils and similar do have spars. Which confuses me somewaht, 'cos my
GlidePath Firelite (176 sq. ft.) packs down real small and has no spars. But then it is a skydiving
rig!

I know there are cheapo kiddies pocket kites out there but I really want something a bit more grown
up, And preferably available in the UK.

Any help received with thanks.

Bill

Plans now circulate under the name of NASA ParaWing with the
dimensions for model 5 (one of several models tested by NASA). Having
build one, I can tell you that the thing pulls like a horse, is a
bitch to bridle and (at my current bridle configuration) produces too
little forward speed. The ParaWing doesn't turn, it pivots around its
center. It folds up to a small package, is absolutely unbreakable and
CHEAP. All it requires is a bit of ripstop and a roll of bridle line.
I build mine (approx 3-3,5 m^2) for under 50$.

>It seems that most flexifoils and similar do have spars. Which confuses me somewaht, 'cos my

For as far as I know (I know very little :-) the flexifoil and its
derivates (sp?) are the only matrass shaped kites with spars. There
are even some bridle-schemes around to use a flexible bridle that
eliminates the spars.

>I know there are cheapo kiddies pocket kites out there but I really want something a bit more grown

You could get any Foil kite in either 2- or 4-line configuration. My
QuadriFoil 5m^2 (which is definitely a bit more grown up :-) folds
into a little round package 35 cm high and 25 cm diameter. I can even
fit the necessary line on two spools in this package. All I need to
carry extra are the two grips. On the downside: they are not cheap.

Greetinx and good luck on your Quest,
Chuck

Peter Lynn makes a very small Peel called the Pocket Peel. Its about
6-8feet in length. Though I've only seen one in my life, I would
think a good retailer could order it for you.
If you are a maker also, the disk for Stunt Kites 2 can give you plans
for a 6-8foot sputnik. Or any size you want.

just telling a story about what one recreationally flies is an ad
for that kite system. The kite itself is one of the most fantastic
forms of advertising. Just list our addresses and say, "I'm moving
on to another kite, does anyone want my good-condition A-kite? "
This is recreational hand-shaking that builds our community both in

just telling a story about what one recreationally flies is an ad
for that kite system. The kite itself is one of the most fantastic
forms of advertising. Just list our addresses and say, "I'm moving
on to another kite, does anyone want my good-condition A-kite? "

'Twas the night before Christmas
and all across the field
Not a kite string was stirring,
not even a Rev.
The kite bags were hung
by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The flyers were partying
not a one was in bed,
While visions of Team Ballet
danced in their heads;
And Uncle Wilbert in his mombo sock
and I in my cap
Had just settled down for a long distance chat
When out on the flying field there arose such a clatter,
we sprang from our drinks to see what was the matter.
When, what to our woundering eyes should appear,
but a Land Lizard buggy, pulled by a Sky Tiger 40.
With a little old pilot solively and quick,
We knew in a moment it mut be St. Nick
More rapid than eagles, his kites they came
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name,
"Now Flexifoil, now Quadrifoil, now Peter Lynn Peel,
On Nemisis, on Speed Limit, on Kestral and Griffin!
To the end of the field, just to stop with a stall,
Now buggy away, fly away, buggy away all."
As Deltas that in a brisk breeze will fly,
with a tug on the string they climb to the sky.
So up to the roof tops the buggy it flew,
With a bag of goodies, and St Nicholas, too.
As we took a deep breath and were turning around
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in red from his head to his foot
and his clothes were all covered with ashes and soot.
A bundle of kites he had on his back,
Led me to believe I was getting a stack.
He had a new Rokaku and a new set of lines,
and the way he was smiling brought peace of mind.
When the jolly old elf had to finished his work,
He had filled all the stockings then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his buggy, tugged on the kite,
And away he flew into the night.
But we heard him exclaim, ere he flew out of sight,
Happy Christmas to all and to all a good Kite.

With sincerest apologies to Clement C. Moore.

Merry Christmas from The Gerweck family
