Apparently ballots were mailed to foreign (i.e. non-U.S.) members as usual, but were returned to the AKA by the U.S. Postal Service. For some reason they wanted them to be stuffed into envelopes this time. This was done, and the ballets mailed again. According to AKA bylaws the ballots must go out 30 days prior to the election deadline. By the time the ballots were mailed again there was less than the required amount of time before the deadline, i.e. end of the convention. We were also told (by Pete Dolphin) that the elections committee will be counting the foreign returns that come in by fax on Monday, October 10. If there have been sufficient returns to think that the vote was not compromised by the short lead time it may be possible that the elections committee will stick with announcing the results at the convention. We urge all Canadian and other foreign members to return their ballots by fax to 410-922-4262 ASAP.
