While cranking out a train of sleds for the WSIKF, it occured to me that it might be fun to try to build a rec.kites collaborative train. The idea would be to have something that could get flown at festivals and contests that would help publicize rec.kites (although it seems like every kite flier I run into knows about us by now!) and just generally provide a way for us to do something together. I'd expect the train to be extremely portable, so that it could be easily mailed/shipped all over the country -- that way lots of people could fly the train at lots of events. I'd also like to make it out of something relatively easy to work with -- it'd be nice if *all* rec.kite readers, even those who can't sew, could participate. And, of course, it oughta be relatively easy to repair, 'cause we all know how these things get beat up. My thought was that a train of tyvek sleds would be a win. They would fold up to fit into a mailing tube, and would be easy to decorate. Eddys are nice, but are harder to ship, and other trainable kites are much harder to build. A heterogeneous train might look cool, and would allow us each the flexibility to add our favorite kind of kite, but would probably be too tough to fly as a train, especially if it wound up being a large one. Let me know if you are interested in this project. Kevin kml@rokkaku.atl.ga.us = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
