I've used the Beman and find them too stiff and brittle.  After a short while
they don't seem to hold the spreader.

Presently my favorite fittings are those from SkyShark.  They are soft rubber
and hold the spreader very well (as a matter of fact it is sometimes hard to
get the spreader out).  There are two sizes available; one for wrapped rods
like those from SkyShark and one for pultruded rods like Beman or AFC which
have smaller diameter.
Remember to remove the spreaders before storing the kite in the bag; if vinyl
stretches when you don't you should see what happens to these fittings.

For really large diameter stuff I've stuck with vinyl tubing.
