Subject: The all american and a flexi question.

Does anyone know the reason the All American SKC has cancelled the NIP and
IIP,IIB competitions?? When I heard this I was slightly miffed and wanted
to find a reason before I actually got pissed. I was planning to compete
in IIP but now I guess I am reduced to a volunteer/spectator. And now for
something completely different, I am planning to buy a stack of flexis,
and my question is which would give more power a 4',6',8',10' stack or
stack of two 6', two 8' and two 10'. I want this stack mainly for kite
jumping (JUST KIDDING) actually I just want to get dragged on my butt.
Thanks in advance for the info, Also if anyone is going to be at the
Michigan Sport Kite Classic in Livonia we will probably get a chance to
meet

Isn't this the American Kite circuit's big event? The circuit sponsored
by American Kite magazine.

If so, the NIP, IIP & IIB competitions would not have been "cancelled"
as they never would have been scheduled in the first place. AKC only
keeps track of Experienced and Masters class competitions.

Normally that would be true Steve, however when I was at the Great Lakes
SKC back in May I picked up a registration form for the All American and
it listed NIP, IIP, and IIB so they were planned at one point and now they
are no more, so again I ask if anyone knows why let the kiting world know
so we all will be informed

                             Thanks again

Good Winds to all and to all a good night

I found that in *strong* winds, a 2 stack of six footers was enough to
drag me around for lots of fun (and I weigh over 200 pounds). I got
so hooked though (and so dissapointed on days when the 2-stack wasn't
quite powerful enough) that I quickly started saving for another two
kites. The four stack is plenty powerful enough to drag me around in
most wind conditions and a seriously exhilarating fly in higher winds,
however, ... I'm now even more power-addicted so am saving up for
another two kites (plus the fact that I love the look of
stacks... seriously cool) to make a six-stack. From various sources
(hearsay... rec.kites... watching someone flying one...) I'd guess
that, depending on wind conditions, a single ten footer is around as
powerful as three or four 6 footers, but the power comes on more
gently with the 4x6' stack.

Actually that brings me to a question of my own. When will this "I
want two more kites..." craving end? (When I decide that the "engine"
is big enough and start saving for a buggy instead of more flexis? ...
Or when my trainers start to melt from sliding too fast?... Never???)

Oh and if you ever find a source for teflon coated kevlar reinforced
trousers, let me know...

Cheers,
Mark.

Interesting. Just speculation but maybe it was a misprint originally.

I fly 10 ft'ers exclusively, though I've stacked both 6 ft and 12 ft
kites. I fly everyday with 1-2 10 ft flexis, hand held, in winds up to
12-15 mph, and find them a good workout. Others are unwilling to fly even
a single 10 ft'er in 15 mph winds. Go figure...

For sailing, I stack 5-8 10 ft flexis, Jacob's Ladder used 15 in their bid
to set a world record in the 1970's. Always 10 ft'ers...
