We are Jon and Gill(ian) Bloom the co-dictators of the Kite Society of Great Britain. We have been running the Kite Society for 15 years and as such have a lot of material dating back to 1979 BS (Before sports kites). As such we are interested in all aspects of kites and kiteflying as we like to report these things to our members via our quarterly newsletter - of which there are around 3000 in the U.K. and abroad. We also hold an annual convention - which this year is being held at Portsmouth - anyone interested in coming let us know - there is no registration fee for the convention. >From a personal point of view we are more into single liners than sports kites - but take an interest in all. One thing about all this is that we don't quite know where it is at - we have seen similar questions from other people - how do you get anonymous FTP to hawaii to look at the archives - what if you are not directly connected to internet (rec.kites - usenet) - like we are connected via Compuserve (our internet address is Gill Bloom, 100266.116@compuserve.com). We are sure there must be a simple guide which has been worked out over the years - why not let the rest of us know - we can then give more. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sun, 22 May 1994 22:23:26 -1000 From: salanne@convex.csc.FI (Simo Salanne) Message-Id: <2rpp5u$ntj@pobox.csc.fi> Organization: Centre for Scintific Computing Subject: Re: Us and The Kite Society of Great Britain In <940522155559_100255.116_BHB46-2@CompuServe.COM> 100255.116@CompuServe.COM (Gill Bloom) writes: >Hi, we are new to this arena and thought it about time we introduced ourselves. >We are Jon and Gill(ian) Bloom the co-dictators of the Kite Society of Great >Britain. As in rec.kites general.FAQ there are two mirrors of hawaii, geographically closer to UK. You may try ftp-by-mail service from bremen. Smooth Winds Simo ------------------------------------------------ There are two archive mirrors: ftp.uni-bremen.de ftp.funet.fi Services available from ftp.uni-bremen.de: 1. ftp-by-Mail Usage: Send e-mail to 'mailftp@ftp.uni-bremen.de' with a 'Subject:'-line containing the word 'help.' The system will answer with a detailed usage text. Important Note: If your e-mail access is based on modem-driven networks, please make sure that you're allowed to contact a mail- server like this one. Improper requests result in network breakdowns. -- Simo.Salanne@csc.fi STACK Finland = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 23 May 1994 13:53:43 -1000 From: mark@murder.demon.co.uk (Mark de Roussier) Message-Id: <769762423snx@murder.demon.co.uk> Organization: damage Subject: Re: Us and The Kite Society of Great Britain In article <940522155559_100255.116_BHB46-2@CompuServe.COM> 100255.116@CompuServe.COM (Gill Bloom) writes: > Hi, we are new to this arena and thought it about time we introduced ourselves. > > We are Jon and Gill(ian) Bloom the co-dictators of the Kite Society of Great > Britain. Just a thought to folks in general - is there a tie - in between FidoNet and Usenet that would permit access to FTP sites ? I know FidoNet isn't geared up to do pan-planetary file transfer a la FTP, but any connection would be better than none. Also, might it be possible to 'mirror' an FTP site at a FidoNet node, and would this help ? Would alt.bbs be the place to ask this ? -- Mark de Roussier ************************************ A nice man is a man of nasty ideas.
