(1-800-827-6364) Subject: wildwood Going to the A.K.A. convention in Wildwood this year? Make it a week and come early for the Preaka Wildwood Traction Action. October 8-11, 1994 Wildwood offers miles of beaches that are excellent for buggying and kite boating. During low tide the hard-pack is awesome, excellent for speed and spins. During high tide the available beach is softer but you can still buggy on it. The Atlantic Ocean is usually pretty calm seas are 3 foot (1 m) or less unless there is a storm off of the cost. In the fall the wind blows onshore most of the time, but not always. The water is usually cool in the fall staying between 50 and 60 F. There may be a world record attempt with Flexifoils. There will be lots of buggying: tag, races and lessons as well as boating kite boating. There will also be plenty of room during the convention for buggying so you still be able to do plenty of buggying if you can't come early. This is the off season in Wildwood so there will not be tourist or lifeguards crowding the beaches as during E.C.S.K.C., also lodging is inexpensive. More information to follow as it becomes available. I was surprised to see that many people have already made reservations at several hotel/motels in the area. I know that a convention is in town the weekend before the AKA convention so it might make sense to make reservations sooner than later. It should be a great time. Join the AKA and you will get a magazine quarterly(or is it bi-monthly) that lists events as different clubs/organizers let them know. Brooks Leffler on KYTEMAN.AOL.COM could help you with registration info. As I recall both American Kite (list includes more international events than the other calendars) and Kitelines has lists/calendars of events, only problem is these publications aren't as frequent and I often the calendars half over by the time I get them (yes we do have subscriptions). If you are in New England, join KONE (Kites over New England, in Boston area) or Connectikiters (Connecticut club) both have news letters which list local stuff. My assumption was that you are from the USA or Canada. I'm sure that the Great Britain Kite Society (I know they exist, I have their pin) has a mailing with schedule of events. There is the DCD in Germany or AIA the Italian version of the AKA. (Yes, I have their pins, too; but don't know addresses.)
