Subject: Wind Guage recommendations?

I'm thinking of buying a wind guage to help me learn to judge wind speeds better. Does anyone have any
recommendations for me?

Lionel

There are three types of guages in common use. The most expensive
(over $150.00) uses a small turbine and gives very accurate readings
on small LEDs. his unit is good size (about the size of a small
cassete player) and has replacable batterys.

T he second type is somewhat smaller (and probably the most popular)
has non replacable batterys but should be good for fifteen years or so
if the manufacturers claims can be believed (I've had mine for four
years and it still works well) This unit uses an LCD read out and is
very convenient. Cost is in the fifty to seventy five dollar range.

The last type is a plastic tube with a little styrene ball that floats
up and down as it takes readings. Theese units have dual ranges and
are quite accurate in all but the very lightes of breezes where
accauracy may not be as important. Cost is under fifteen dollars.

All units are available from most kite stores and all the major mail
order outfits. I did notice BFK mail order was offering a super low
price for the most expensive units and the least expensive units if
you buy a kite with the wind meter! Lookedlike a great dal if you're
new to kiting .

Hope this helps.

John

A late reaction but I just got the latest copy of Drachen Magazin
where the tested them.
They tested: POCKETWIND - TURBO METER - INTERSAIL - SKYWATCH FUN -
ANEMO - WINDMASTER - WIND WIZARD.

Most accurate: Pocketwind , Anemo and Skywatch
The skywatch costs about half of the others.

hope it helps

Hi Pete,
There is also an inexpensive one called
the DWYER wind meter. Very simple and
works fine. Very low cost.
email for more info.
