It was some years later that I first had a Unix Boxen shoved under my nose and I realised that we were going to become jolly good friends. A big "Rah! Rah! Rah!" goes out for all the other computers with their own strange quirks and admirable virtues, but for me, it's the Unix thing that rings my bell.
Over the years, I went through a few freelance programming jobs, interspersed with a degree in Information Systems Design and other small earners, a period writing all sorts of great Unix bits and pieces, finally culminating in a post-graduate job maintaining SCSI device drivers and supporting things that I don't often like to think about.
Hmm... it was time to move on.
For the past few years, the job satisfaction grass has indeed been green, working for Peritas Ltd. (an ICL company) as a programmer, graphic designer, webmaster and multimedia/online consultant. The graphics thing is something that just grew over the years through dabbling in Ray Tracing, 3D Modelling and the like. All of a sudden, multimedia, and more latterly, the Internet, pop up into mainstream consciousness and I find myself getting paid to do all the things I love doing. Nice one! And look at all these cool toys I get to play with...
Like many hackers, the software has collected dust over the years in mounds of half-finished projects, undocumented utilities and snazzy prototypes with little or no functionality. Or maybe that's just me... But collected here are a few of the useful tools that I did finish, and document - made available now in the hope that they prove useful to others.
